The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) distributed a survey to all employees and students to determine the climate around diversity and inclusion at TCC. Many questions were specific to students or employees, though there were several questions asked of both groups.
Question themes included:
OIDI, the Office of institutional Effectiveness and Compliance (IEC) and an advisory council made up of students, faculty, staff and administrators from each of the five campuses as well as District employees collaborated to create the survey questions.
On November 27, 2012, a link to the survey was emailed to all TCC employees and students. The survey was open until December 7, 2012.
Participation incentives for students included:
IEC conducted a random drawing from students who completed the survey. Those chosen were eligible for the incentives.
Vision 2015 is TCC's five-year strategic plan that supports our mission to provide affordable and open access to quality teaching and learning.
Goal 2 of Vision 2015 addresses “affordability, accessibility, and diversity reflective of the community.” One of the supporting strategies for this goal is to “assess our current status of diversity around representation, management practices, and institutional climate, and use the assessment to create a diversity plan.”
In response to Goal 2, OIDI created a Strategic Plan for Diversity and Inclusion based on both OIDI goals and data gathered by the diversity survey. The plan includes initiatives for students and employees to increase their cultural competence, self-awareness, and understanding and acceptance around issues of diversity and inclusion.
Campus-based diversity councils exist to address the initiatives identified by the diversity survey. Activities are guided by campus-based action plans of the Strategic Plan for Diversity and Inclusion-Vision to Action.
