The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) distributed a survey to all employees and students to determine the climate around diversity and inclusion at TCC. Many questions were specific to students or employees, though there were several questions asked of both groups.
Question themes included:
OIDI, the Office of institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness (IRPE) and an advisory council made up of students, faculty, staff and administrators from each of the five campuses as well as District employees collaborated to create the survey questions.
On November 27, 2012, a link to the survey was emailed to all TCCD employees and students. The survey was open until December 7, 2012.
Participation incentives for students included:
IRPE conducted a random drawing from students who completed the survey. Those chosen were eligible for the incentives.
Vision 2015 is TCC's five-year strategic plan that supports our mission to provide affordable and open access to quality teaching and learning.
Goal 2 of Vision 2015 addresses “affordability, accessibility, and diversity reflective of the community.” One of the supporting strategies for this goal is to “assess our current status of diversity around representation, management practices, and institutional climate, and use the assessment to create a diversity plan.”
In response to Goal 2, OIDI will create a Strategic Plan for Diversity based on both OIDI goals and data gathered by the diversity survey. The plan will include initiatives for students and employees to increase their cultural competence, self-awareness, and understanding and acceptance around issues of diversity and inclusion.
Campus-based diversity councils will be created to address the initiatives identified by the diversity survey. A council already exists at the South Campus.
