Achieving the Dream Logo

Achieving the Dream (ATD) colleges use five indicators to track student success rates on five specific indicators, the second of which focuses on student advancement from remedial to credit-bearing courses following the successful completion of developmental education (developmental education indicator). The first step for Tarrant County College District (TCCD) as an ATD institution is to establish baseline data on the developmental education indicator against which our progress will be measured. This baseline provides a snapshot of TCCD’s success rates prior to joining ATD using a cohort of first-time-in-college (FTIC) students who began in the 2005FL semester and following their progress through the 2009SP semester.

TCCD will begin to track improvements on the developmental education indicator by comparing the baseline data from the 2005FL FTIC cohort with data collected on the 2010FL FTIC cohort then continuing with the 2011FL FTIC cohort and beyond. These comparisons will highlight progress and problem areas in developmental education to better inform our decisions as we move forward with new programs and services.

Successful Completion of Developmental Writing Courses

The TCCD developmental writing sequence includes two courses: ENGL 0324 and ENGL 0325.Developmental Writing Successful EnrollmentsGraph 1 presents the total enrollments and completion rates for the 2005FL FTIC cohort in each developmental writing course through the 2009SP reporting term.

Graph 1 data does not indicate how many students successfully completed the entire developmental sequence in writing; it presents only the completion rate for each developmental writing course through the reporting term. Successful completion of the highest level developmental writing course ENGL 0325 does represent successful completion of the developmental sequence; however, Graph 1 data does not indicate how many students fulfilled the developmental writing requirement by passing THEA or TSI Assessment® rather than successfully completing ENGL 0325.

Successful Completion of Developmental Math Courses

The TCCD developmental math program includes two sequences: MATH 0101 through MATH 0109 for those campuses offering Mod Math; and MATH 0302, 0304, and 0350. Developmental Math Successful EnrollmentsCompletion of MATH 0103 is equivalent to completion of MATH 0302; completion of MATH 0106 is equivalent to completion of MATH 0304; and completion of MATH 0109 is equivalent to completion of MATH 0350. Graph 2 includes Mod Math enrollments and completions in 0103, 0106, and 0109 within the totals for MATH 0302, 0304, and 0350 for the 2005FL FTIC cohort through the 2009SP reporting term.

Graph 2 data does not indicate how many students successfully completed the entire developmental sequence in math; it presents only the completion rate for each developmental math course through the reporting term. Successful completion of either of the highest level developmental math courses MATH 0109 or MATH 0350 does represent successful completion of the developmental sequence; however, Graph 2 data does not indicate how many students fulfilled the developmental math requirement by passing THEA or TSI Assessment rather than successfully completing MATH 0109 or MATH 0350.

Successful Completion of Developmental Reading Courses

The TCCD developmental reading sequence includes two courses: RDNG 0361 and RDNG 0363. Graph 3 presents the total enrollments and completion rates for the 2005FL FTIC cohort in each developmental reading course through the 2009SP reporting term.

Developmental Reading Successful Enrollments

Graph 3 data does not indicate how many students successfully completed the entire developmental sequence in reading; it presents only the completion rate for each developmental reading course through the reporting term. Successful completion of the highest level developmental reading course RDNG 0363 does represent successful completion of the developmental sequence; however, Graph 3 data does not indicate how many students fulfilled the developmental reading requirement by passing THEA or an alternative test rather than successfully completing RDNG 0363.
