Upholstery Program

Are you a creative, detail-oriented problem solver who enjoys working with fabrics and furniture? If so, then upholstery might be the field for you.

Upholsterers make, replace and repair coverings on furniture and in vehicles.

What will I learn?

You will learn the skills you need to prepare for a career as an upholsterer, including:

upholstery student working at a sewing machine
  • Selecting proper materials
  • Creating patterns
  • Fitting to old furniture using upholstery tools
  • Caring for machines and tools

Our advanced course focuses on:

  • Frame-up construction
  • Repairs
  • Spring typing
  • Repadding
  • Whole-piece (recovering) construction

You can use your own projects!


Where can I find a job?

Career opportunities include fabric cutters, pattern makers and upholstery sewers.

Many upholsterers work for:

  • Household and institutional furniture manufacturers
  • Upholstery shops
  • Automotive repair shops

Some upholsters own their own businesses.
