Credit vs. Noncredit

TCC offers two types of classes, college credit and Continuing Education.

College Credit Courses

College credit courses apply toward college and university degrees. In addition, developmental courses are offered to prepare students for college-level coursework. Course credits are measured in semester hours.

  • Basics / Core Curriculum
  • Fields of Study
  • Degrees and Certificates
  • Developmental Courses*
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

*Developmental courses are listed on the student's transcript but are not calculated with grade point average (GPA).

Continuing Education (Noncredit) Courses

Continuing Education courses are not offered for college credit, but in many cases continuing education units (CEUs) are awarded. Community members can take courses for GED preparation, improve job skills or for personal enrichment.

  • General Education Development (GED)
  • Certificate Programs
  • Personal Enrichment
  • CEUs
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Corporate and Workforce Development
  • Small Business Development
