Falloff: Curatorial Statement
Timothy Harding and Kris Pierce worked together last December to create works that were part of an installation for the group Homecoming Committee. Their pieces are the inspiration for this exhibit.
Although Harding is known better for his meticulous large-scale drawings, his lesser known, Flavinesque manipulation of light is just as masterful. The fixtures glow, and they result in a vivid depiction of the Inverse Square Law of Lighting, from which the term Falloff is derived.
Pierce, at the other end, applies his mastery of animation to full effect in his video work. His most recent piece, Final Boss of the Internet, combines 8-bit simplicity and strong compositional intuition into a commanding array on an octagonal projection surface.
Falloff is a statement about how these artists transform light and the areas just past the influence of light into a cohesive space that is balanced both by what’s visible and by what's invisible.
