Skilled heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians are needed on a constant basis to install, service and repair the air conditioning, heating and refrigeration units used in our homes and industries.
Programs of Study
- Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.)
- For those interested in becoming their own boss or acquiring a higher position
- Covers both certificate of completions, if the student chooses to petition for all three
- Installation Technician Certificate of Completion
- Preparation for the basic needs to become an installation technician
- Includes five basic courses
- Courses are prerequisites and must be taken prior to the Service Technician Certificate of Completion
- Service Technician Certificate of Completion
- Preparation for those seeking to maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems
- Includes six advanced courses
Those who are interested in attaining the Certificate of Completions must provide the Registrar's office with a TSI waiver to possibly avoid having to take a placement test since no core curriculum courses are required. A placement test might be required for those who need individual approval because they are without a High School diploma or GED.
Most courses have prerequisite courses so a required course of study is suggested. When registering for classes, please keep prerequisites in mind.
Importance of the Industry
- Everyone relies on HVACR systems to operate smoothly, regardless of economic conditions.
- Buildings and houses depend on temperature and air quality control and thus HVACR mechanics, installers and other occupations in the climate-control industry are in heavy demand.
- Residential HVACR systems generally need replaced after 10 to 15 years, so the need for climate-control technicians is vast no matter the location, but especially in Texas.
