Railroad Dispatcher

The Railroad Dispatcher Training Program is designed to train students in the rules, regulations and procedures of a railroad dispatcher. Students use computer systems in a hands-on simulated dispatching environment.

Graduates are able to move trains safely and efficiently across an assigned territory.

This certificate program is taught only on the Northwest Campus and requires specific time and cost commitments.

Requirements

To be eligible, you must

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a diploma from an accredited high school or a GED
  • Be willing to transfer to another location if necessary
  • Pass the selective admissions process

Selective Admissions Process

Prospective Railroad Dispatcher students must:

  1. Complete and submit the Application for the Dispatcher Training Program
  2. Pass the Dispatcher Aptitude Test
  3. Participate in an interview with a panel of industry representatives

Once accepted into the program, students apply to TCC.

Important Dates

For the February 2012 Class

  • Late November/Early December 2011: Interviews for February 2012 class
  • December 2011: Notification of applicants' status
  • February 6, 2012: Start of the spring class

For the June 2012 Class

  • Wednesday, March 28: Deadline for the June 2012 class for:
    • Submitting completed applications and all supporting documents
      and
    • Earning a passing score on the Dispatcher Aptitude Test.
    This deadline is not a postmark deadline. All forms and supplemental material must be in by March 28. Anything received after this date, regardless of postmark, will not be considered for the June class and will be rolled over to the next class offered.
  • February 17, and March 23, 2012: Aptitude Test dates for June 2012 class (Reservation for a seat is mandatory.)
  • April 2012: Interveiws for June 2012 class and notification of applicant status
  • June 4, 2012: Start date of summer class
