Career Coach buttonEmployers, colleges and universities are looking for students who have demonstrated experience in leadership and service activities. Service learning can give you an edge when it comes to developing these skills and abilities in addition to improving your learning.

You perform service at non-profit community agencies. You are often able to choose the agency where you will serve.

Service learning guidelines depend on individual course requirements specified in the course syllabus. You should work with your course instructors to complete service learning required for specific courses and determine whether your project is done independently or collaboratively.

If you would like to become involved in service learning, you should encourage your professors and department chairs to initiate new service learning classes.

Reflection assignments encourage critical thinking and demonstrate your learning through various forms such as journals, essays, class discussions. Structured reflection activities provide a means through which you can study and interpret the relationship between service and course content.

How Do I Start

You must follow specific guidelines and complete campus service learning requirements.
