Diversity and Inclusion Councils

The Diversity and Inclusion Councils function as field entities of the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI) and support its mission. Councils are comprised of faculty and staff and work toward three main goals to support OIDI’s mission.

These are broad goals that will allow us to include a variety of activities (including training) over the next 3 years (August 2017 to August May 2020) and to measure/evaluate the effectiveness of the activities.

Goal 1

Foster a diverse and inclusive culture by positively impacting TCCD’s efforts in recruiting, retaining, and achieving credential completion with diverse student populations reflective of our communities, through cultural competence and inclusive awareness, knowledge, skills, and behaviors.

Objectives:

  • Programming (broaden marketing for students)
  • Work with student organizations
  • Work with student leadership programs
  • Develop diversity and inclusion related focus groups
  • Create a communication plan for Diversity and Inclusion Councils

Goal 2

Foster a diverse and inclusive culture by positively impacting TCCD’s efforts in recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse employee population reflective of our communities, through cultural competence and inclusive awareness, knowledge, skills, and behaviors.

Objectives:

  • Eliminate barriers to join the Diversity and Inclusion Councils
  • Programming (develop a marketing plan for the councils)
  • Develop a Diversity and Inclusion professional development plan
  • Develop a plan that will include the Diversity and Inclusion Council members to be a member on hiring committees
  • Create a communication plan for Diversity and Inclusion Councils

Goal 3

Foster a diverse and inclusive culture by positively impacting TCCD’s efforts in serving our diverse communities (organizations and individuals) through cultural competence and inclusive awareness, knowledge, skills, and behaviors.

Objectives:

  • Create a Diversity Summit for the community
  • Create community service opportunities
  • Partner with TCC summer programs
  • Develop a community outreach plan 
  • Create a communication plan for Diversity and Inclusion Councils
