Today-Feb. 8 Horses: The Story of Equus returns to Fort Worth’s Omni Theater. Horses is a combination of sequences involving staged scenes and actual footage of horses in the wild with the film capturing the animals behaving naturally. Today-Feb. 8 The Kalita Humphrey’s Theater presents Accidental Death of an Anarchist. This world premiere of Nobel Prize-winner Dario Fo’s play explores issues from police brutality and media manipulation to politicians’ empty promises. Today-Feb. 8 Theatre Arlington is presenting On Borrowed Time by Paul Osborne. This story, set in 1938, deals with the struggle of two grandparents raising their orphaned grandson. Today-Feb. 13 The third annual Joyce Elaine Grant Photography Exhibition is on display in the Texas Woman’s University Fine Arts Galleries from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and on weekends by appointment. A closing reception will be Feb. 12, 6.-8 p.m. Heautoscopy, works by Victoria Hirt, last year’s solo exhibition winner, is also on view. Today-May 2 The Amon Carter Museum presents Sights Once Seen: Daguerreotyping Fremont’s Last Expedition Through the Rockies. This exhibition brings together American history and the history of photography. It features more than 100 daguerreotypes by photographer Robert Shlaer, who from 1994-98 retraced the route of explorer John C. Fremont, who led an expedition from Missouri to California in an attempt to locate a route for the proposed transcontinental railway.
Jan. 30-Feb. 15 NE Campus will display University of Texas at Arlington photography students’ first group exhibition Focus in the College Hall Gallery. Jan. 30-Feb. 22 Jubilee Theatre will present Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting by Ed Schmidt. The story focuses on Branch Rickey, manager of the famed Brooklyn Dodgers in the late 1940s as he stands ready to sign Jackie Robinson. He calls together a summit meeting with help from the greatest black men of the day, and they consider politics and philosophies and how their influence might keep peace at this volatile shift in culture. Feb. 1-29 The Irving Arts Center will present Exquisite Stitches: African American Quilt. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday and Tuesday.
Feb. 4 The Sammons Center for the Arts will present Easy on the Heart featuring Cindy Horstman and friends. In the second set, The Tom Braxton Quartet will make its first appearance in the Sammons Jazz series. The $25 ticket provides free valet parking, complimentary coffee, wine, beer, soft drinks and light appetizers. Feb. 13-15 The Fort Worth Dallas Ballet will present Three of Hearts, a Valentine celebration with three ballets in one performance at Bass Performance Hall. The performances will include Serenade by Tchaikovsky/Balanchine; Jitter Hoppin, swing music from the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s by Alex and Virginia Arizpe, and a third piece to be announced.
