Stage West to open new play

Stage West announces the debut of playwright Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
The Shape of Things is about Adam, an English major who is a guard at an art museum, and Evelyn, a graduate art student.
One night before the end of his shift, Adam encounters Evelyn, who is about to deface a statue to make a statement.
They begin seeing each other soon afterward and Adam’s appearance begins to change much to the amazement of his friends Philip and Jenny.
Evelyn soon begins affecting Philip and Jenny, and their relationship begins to undergo changes full of betrayal.
This performance is part of the inauguration of the theater’s new second space, dubbed the Hardy and Betty Sanders Theater, located in the old Modern Art Museum (now the Fort Worth Community Arts Center).
Neil LaBute won the Filmmakers Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival for the film adaptation of his play In the Company of Men, which was later named Best First Film by the New York Film Critics Circle.
Other works include films Your Friends and Neighbors (1998) and Nurse Betty (2000).
The production will run through Sunday, March 7, in the Sanders Theater in the Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy St.
An opening night reception will follow the Feb. 13 performance. The production will also offer two behind-the-scene features: About the Play on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and About the Art after the Feb. 26 performance.
Performance times are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
