Today-May 2 The Amon Carter Museum presents Sights Once Seen: Daguerreotyping Fremont’s Last Expedition Through the Rockies. This exhibition features more than 100 daguerreotypes by photographer Robert Shlaer, who retraced the route of explorer John C. Fremont, who led an expedition from Missouri to California in an attempt to locate a route for the proposed transcontinental railway.
Today-May 9 The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has opened a new exhibit: Play it by Ear where visitors can touch, hear and play with sound art. Admission to the exhibit is included with regular admission: $7 for adults and $5 for children (3-12) and seniors (60+).
Today-May 31 The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History presents Whodunit?, which explores scientific methods and technologies used to solve crimes. Admission to the exhibit is included with regular admission. For information, call 817-255-9300.
Feb. 19-22 NW Theatre presents HONK!, a family entertainment musical production based on Hans Christian Anderson’s The Ugly Duckling. Honk! will run at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 19-21, with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21-22. Feb. 20-21 Dancers from across the United States will present an evening of modern dance at 8 p.m. in the Denton Center for Visual Arts. Performers will offer solos and duets to illustrate various moods and ideas. Performances will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Feb 19-21 Smoke on the Mountain, a musical comedy by Connie Ray, closes at Artisan Center Theater in North Hills Mall. The year is 1938, and the audience becomes the congregation of Mount Pleasant Church. Pastor Oglethorpe tries to move his flock into the “modern world” with his “first ever Saturday Night Sing.” Showtimes are 8 p.m. with an additional 3 p.m. performance Saturday. Feb. 20-March 27 Shanghai Moon by Charles Busch opens at Pocket Sandwich Theatre. Shanghai Moon is a tongue-in-cheek look at the 1930s oriental movie melodramas. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, ranging from $8-$16, are available at 214-821-1860.
Feb. 21 Fort Worth Early Music will perform Gloria at 2 p.m. at the Modern Art Museum. Camille King, soprano, and Stanley Warren, tenor, will perform. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors, $10 for teachers with I.D. and $5 for students. Call 817-921-9275 for reservations.
Feb. 25-March 21 Dallas Theater Center presents Topdog/Underdog in the Kalita Humphreys Theater. The play deals with sibling rivalry placing two brothers in a room with a game of three-card monte. In this play, the brothers are forced to confront the shattering reality of their future in one final high-stakes game.
Feb. 27-29 Agua, Azucarillos y Aguardiente by Frederico Chueca will be presented by the TCU Opera Studio with the TCU Symphony Orchestra with soprano Martha Guitérrez. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Ed Landreth Auditorium.
Feb. 27 Bach’s Harpsichord concertos will be presented by the Dallas Bach Society at 8 p.m. in the Church of the Transfiguration. Tickets are $15, $20 and $25. Order tickets at www.dallasbach.org or 214-320-8700.
Feb. 28 Fort Worth Early Music will perform at the Kimbell Art Museum at 2 p,m. The musical program includes Monteclair’s Le mort de Didon, Clerambault’s Orphée and Trio Sonatas by Leclair and Boismotier. Admission is free.
March 2 The Cowtown Opry will celebrate and remember Texas Independence Day and the state’s heritage. The program begins at 5 p.m. and includes reenactments, dinner, entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets are $50 each. For reservations, call 817-366-9675.

March 5-7 Irving Children’s Theatre presents The Phantom Tollbooth in Dupree Theater. Milo visits the Land of Wisdom, where he learns of the disagreement between King Azaz and the Mathemagician who has banished the two Princesses Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason. Milo is dispatched to rescue them from the land of Ignorance. The play is suitable for children 6 and older. Tickets are $6-$8. Call 972-252-2787 for reservations and times.
