Finding Time, the newest art exhibit on SE Campus,
features the work of art department faculty and staff.
Eddy Rawlinson, SE instructor of art, has two pieces in the exhibit:
mixed media panels The Dharma Paradox I: Beginner’s Mind and The
Dharma Paradox II: The Way of Harmony.
“The show is a good opportunity for the school and community to
see what the faculty and staff are doing outside the classroom in their
professional art life,” he said.
Rawlinson said his pieces are part of his continual exploration of spiritual
mysticism and the similarities in the viewpoints and attitudes many
doctrines share.
John Frost, gallery coordinator for the Art Corridor II, said the name
Finding Time was selected arbitrarily and is not necessarily the theme
of the current show.
“It does relate to the juggling act of teaching while concurrently
continuing to actively make new artwork,” the coordinator said.
Sharon Covington has three digital prints in the current show.
“The exhibit means a lot, seeing how the title of the exhibition
forces an artist into doing the very thing he or she needs to do—find
time to create,” she said.
Covington said her favorite piece is The Distance in Your Eyes.
“I think it comes the closest to portraying an idea I’ve
been working with for quite some time,” she said.
“That is the fact that one’s identity, humanity and creativity
are tied deeply to the surrounding environment,” she said.
The exhibit includes 31 pieces by 12 artists.
Finding Time will be on display until Friday, Feb. 27, in Art Corridor
II Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday
8 a.m.-3 p.m..
A reception for the artists and an artist lecture are scheduled Tuesday,
Feb. 24, 4-5:30 p.m. in the campus Conference Center ESEC 2124C.
