Films ready for Q Cinema

Leaving Metropolis, a Canadian production, is this month’s offering by the producers of Q Cinema and Fort Worth’s Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival.
The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Rave Motion Pictures in Ridgmar Mall.
Leaving Metropolis is the film version of Brad Fraser’s hit play Poor Superman.
The story follows David, a successful artist and waiter in search of a muse. David soon finds Matt, a married restaurant owner who finds himself surprisingly drawn to David.
Their chemistry inspires a series of erotic paintings, and the two begin a torrid affair. David’s best friends—Shannon, a transgender woman living with AIDS, and Kryla, a newspaper columnist—try to cushion the affair to keep their little family together.
This film is Fraser’s debut; he also wrote and produced Showtime’s Queer as Folk.
The film runs 89 minutes and is un-rated, but does include nudity, sexual situations, drug use and strong language.
The March entry, which shows Thursday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m., is 9 Dead Gay Guys, an Irish film about two straight men from Belfast who embark on a voyage of discovery through London’s seriously gay scene.
With the intention of finding a fortune, they are on the lookout for what they term “a gainful affair.”
Yet, everywhere the men go, death seems to be lurking around every corner.
The 80-minute film is unrated but contains strong language, sexual situations, crude humor and violence.
April 15 marks the showing of the Italian film Adored: Diary of a Male Porn Star. The story follows Ricky Kandisky, a male porn star, who has been away from home for 11 years.
When he receives news about the death of his father, he is forced to return home, where he must reconnect with his older brother Federico. Federico, an uptight man in an unhappy marriage, knows nothing about Ricky’s career.
But when the secret comes out, Federico is initially shocked at his brother’s lifestyle but slowly comes to appreciate his joy for life.
When the brothers become involved with an orphaned boy, Federico supports his brother’s fight to become the child’s father.
The film is 105 minutes long and unrated, but contains nudity, sexual situations and strong language. The film is in Italian with English subtitles.
All films will show at the Rave Motion Pictures Ridgmar 13. Tickets are $10; $5 with a student I.D., which includes the movie as well as one complimentary drink and hors d’oeuvres at the monthly after party at Club Vivid in downtown Fort Worth.
Tickets are available in advance at Vivid and at the theater an hour prior to show time.
