Group to offer tax help

Mayor Mike Moncrief and the Fort Worth Asset Building Alliance will launch the 2004 Tax Preparation Campaign Saturday, Feb. 21.
Free tax preparation services will be offered to low to moderate-income families, elderly, disabled and English as second language individuals.
Those who make no more than $34,000 gross income can participate. People who attend the event should take all W2 forms and the social security cards of each family member.
Volunteers will help citizens file taxes and will inform families if they qualify for certain benefits.
According to Rodrigo Ocampo, community relations coordinator, Fort Worth citizens could lose $22 million to $23 million in unclaimed Earned Income Credits and Child Tax Credits. Most people who do not claim EIC are not aware that they are eligible for this credit, Ocampo said.
The sites are run by community organizations and volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Services and provide services in English and Spanish.
The free tax help sites are located at Northside Recreational Center, 1801 Harrington Ave.; Boys and Girls Club, 1500 Hemphill and 3123 Ave. G; and Carter Metropolitan CME, 4601 Wichita St., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Near Northside Partners Council at 1519 Circle Park Blvd. will offer tax services Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
