WINR sponsoring business seminar
Students wanting to become successful entrepreneurs
can take the first step by attending a WINR community seminar next week.
The free seminar by Catherine Simpson, director of the Women’s
Business Center in Fort Worth, will be in the South Campus SSTU Living
Room, Tuesday, March 2, 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
All questions and aspects of the entrepreneurial world will be covered.
Simpson will talk about the entrepreneurial personality as well as explain
how to start a business and how to write a business plan.
Her seminar will run 11:15 a.m.-noon. She will then be open for any
questions she may have not answered from noon to 12:15 p.m.
The seminar will promote the Entrepreneur Expo 2004: Worth A Million
scheduled at the Fort Worth Convention Center March 12.
Women in New Roles on South Campus is sponsoring the seminar; WINR programs
on all four campuses will participate in the expo.

Seminar to assist in note taking
South Campus will host Effective Note Taking: Getting
the Most Out of What the Instructor Says next week in the Texas Room
inside the Student Center.
Steve Rakoff, counselor on South Campus, will present the seminar, Tuesday,
March 2, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and repeated Tuesday, April 20, from
2 to 3 p.m.
The presentation will be broken into four parts. The first will involve
the purpose of note taking, followed by effective listening skills.
Next, note-taking systems will be discussed. This will involve the Cornell
Note Taking Technique, which was created 40 years ago by Walter Pauk
of Cornell University as a way to help students better organize their
notes. Lastly, Rakoff will talk about taking notes from a book.
The presentation is part of the College Student Success Seminars and
is sponsored by the South Campus counseling center.
Coordinator to help in anger issues
Students experiencing anger problems in their family
caused by stress may want to attend a seminar on SE Campus today.
Jill Gutbier, community education coordinator for The Parenting Center,
will present Be Good to Your Family! Controlling and Defusing Anger
Situations Wednesday, Feb. 25, from noon to 12:45 p.m. in Lecture Hall
ESEE 1301. Gutbier has been with The Parenting Center for seven years
and has conducted many seminars focusing on anger problems among families.
Sponsored by SE Campus counseling center, this seminar will help students
learn about self-care and healthy relationships. Gutbier will offer
advice on controlling anger.
