Ah yes, it is March and March Madness: the yearly
frenzy for 64 basketball teams to compete in college basketball's
biggest attraction.
This year the usual big schools are shooting to
become the best in the NCAA. But we also find schools known mostly
by only their students.
For those who are new to March Madness and baffled
on how to choose the winner, it's okay.
Forget everything that happened during the regular
season because it doesn't matter anymore.
The teams unbeatable during the season just became
beatable.
Only one thing matters when picking a winner: has
this team been consistent in beating good teams? After the first
rounds, these teams are moving on to the Sweet 16.
In the Midwest, we have Kentucky, Missouri and Pittsburgh.
Kentucky is proving the favorite.
In the West, we have some powerhouses in Arizona,
Kansas, Duke and a good Gonzaga team.
Arizona has been under the microscope because of
its soft schedule, but the team is capable. Kansas is always a wildcard.
Who knows what team will show up?
In the west is the Duke Blue Devils, not the force
they once were. Gonzaga skated through the season and will go home
early this year.
The South region has the Texas Longhorns leading
a relatively weak region; they should make it through unscathed
because of their great depth.
The East has another Big 12 team at the number one
spot with Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a dangerous team and will do well
against any opponent. The East has numerous decent teams; however,
I think Oklahoma is too good.
Leading the list of little known schools are Indiana
University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, Weber State, Wagner,
ETSU and finally Austin Peay. We have kissed all these guys goodbye,
but they were fun to watch for a while.
