Clubs to benefit through festival

Several country music artists are helping a good cause by performing at The Brazos River Music Festival Saturday, April 5.

The event is hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Hood County and will help benefit clubs in Granbury, Stephenville, Tolar and Glen Rose.

This year's Music Fest will consist of a stellar line-up of country music artists.

Performers will include 1999's critically acclaimed and four-time Grammy-winning Asleep at the Wheel and Texas' own Cooder Graw.

Other entertainers include singer and song writers Radney Foster and Brian Burns, bluegrass singer Sonny Burgess and Metroplex natives Deryl Dodd, Tommy Alverson and Brian Lee.

Since February 2002, when the Boys and Girls Club was established, it has operated under the national organization's mission statement to "empower all youth to become successful members of society by giving them a sense of competence, a sense of usefulness, a sense of belonging and a sense of power and influence."

The club aims at providing a safe and positive environment for youths as well as helping them develop and reach their potential.

Larry Beasley, the executive director of the Hood County club, said he is very excited about starting the new event and is looking forward to raising money and awareness for the clubs. He hopes the children will benefit as well as have fun.

The events are scheduled for the Texas Amphitheatre in Glen Rose. Gates will open at 1 p.m. The show runs from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Concessions are available, and parking is free. Tickets are $20 for general admission or $25 for reserved seats.

Tickets are available by phone at 254-897-4509 or at Tubb Record Shop in Fort Worth.
