NW wins 10th place in Bowl
The NW College Bowl team placed
10th out of 18 teams at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos,
Feb. 22.
NW team members were chosen through a mini tournament
held in October. Team participants practiced early this semester, competing
against faculty teams as part of the training process.
Every year the NW Campus College Bowl team competes in the College Bowl
regional tournament, and this year's team defeated universities such
as Texas Tech and Southwest Texas State.
Team members included Robbie Roysden, captain, Teresa Baker and Bobby
Ensminger.
Roysden placed eighth and Baker placed ninth with the highest individual
scores within their bracket.
While other teams may have consisted of five players, the NW College
Bowl team played with only three because of emergency situations.
"You could have five on a team, but we competed with only three,
so there were other teams we competed against with more members,"
Baker said.
Michael Nichols, assistant instructor of history, and Laura Woods, instructor
of history and government, are co-sponsors of the NW College Bowl team.
Woods said her students did well in this year's tournament.
"I'm really proud of my students this year. We were the only two-year
college competing in the tournament," she said. "It says a
lot about TCC."
Baker said the tournament was extremely competitive.
