PTK chapters awarded

Members of Phi Theta Kappa returned from their regional convention over spring break in Tyler with students and officers from all four campus chapters winning several awards.

The four chapters-Phi Tau on NE, Alpha Delta Delta on NW, Beta Delta Omicron on SE and Rho Chi on South-received the Five Star Level certificate, the highest level for a chapter to gain recognition for its success based on activities, participation, meetings and inductions.
The award is based on a business plan, dealing with organizing, planning and building a strong foundation for the chapter.
Student winners of the Scholarship Hallmark Award of Excellence for conducting activities implementing Phi Theta Kappa's Honors Study Topic were Kora Johnson, South chapter vice president, and Elizabeth Anderson, NE chapter member.
The NE chapter won the Scholarship Hallmark Award recognizing its comprehensive program of events about the honor topic, Directions and Dimensions of Health: Choices in the Maze. According to Dee Dee Rogers, NE advisor, this award was one of the big awards.
Chapters from NE and NW won the Pinnacle Award for enhancing their recruitment and orientation strategies, as measured by the number of new members reported each year. The NE chapter increased enrollment by 10 percent over the previous year.
Molly Averrite, recognized as Outstanding Chapter President at SE, and Lynda Davis, NE chapter president, received the Members Hall of Honor award.
"I was recommended by my chapter for the award," Davis said. "There were about 500 people, and when I heard my name being called, I didn't expect it. I was very shocked and surprised and at the same time felt very honored."
Fellowship Hallmark Award of Excellence recognized NW chapter and Vickie Hall, SE chapter member, for reflecting the promotion of chapter development to other chapters needing assistance and providing and participating in opportunities to gather chapters together.
Dr. Mary Hood, regional coordinator, presented the Horizon Award to three district advisors: Rogers (NE), Susie Olmos-Soto (NW) and Patricia Clough (SE).
