NE Xplosion to feature arts
by Shannon Harrison, NE News Editor

An Xplosion of art will embrace NE Campus this month.
The Northeast Art Association will sponsor a Fine Arts Xplosion Wednesday, April 16, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. with different activities on campus.
A silent action will be in College Hall, 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m. Teachers will donate their works of art, and gift certificates for various places will also be available for participants to purchase.
Cedric Huckaby, a graduate of the University of Boston and Yale, will lead a panel discussion for students interested in learning how to get into the school of their dreams.
"NE Campus is leading in art majors in the TCC system, and many of our students are aspiring to go to four-year universities," Anitra Blayton, associate professor of art, said.
"It's our consensus that a two-year school is a better place for students to start because they receive one-on-one instruction. It's smaller; they have a better foundation, and they can get their electives out of the way," she said.
The smaller environment also helps students, Blayton said.
"Students have a better chance of surviving and doing stronger work. Plus, their portfolios become a bigger issue," she said.
"By their second year they should have an extensive and well-rounded portfolio, and this is what the panel will discuss: experience and how to get in to the school of your choice," she said.
A display of student work will be in the FAB and CAB hallways. The works will be for sale. "The students' art work will not be framed, so it will be more affordable to the purchaser," Blayton said.
"We will have a cash register in front of FAB 162, with a charge card machine, for those wishing to purchase the art," she said.
Matt Pavel, an art and photography student, has been invited to exhibit his work of photographs April 7-April 25 on the Invitation Wall by FAB 194.
Drama students, John Davenport and Christian Cater, will perform live music noon-1 p.m. in the courtyard between FAB and CAB.
Blayton will present an artist's talk about her work and an art personal piece at 10:10 a.m. in the FAB theatre.
Inspirations, a film by Michael Apted, will be shown at 2 p.m. in FAB 194. Focusing on artists and their ideas, the film features artist Roy Lichtenstein and musician David Bowie as well as a choreographer, glass scuplturer, a ceramicist and an architect.
