Optimist Club of TCC on South Campus received a commendation for being the first organization to become part of the U.S. Department of Education-funded program for mentoring at-risk children in the Fort Worth Independent School District. The group adopted Rosemont Middle School as its first school for the mentoring program.

Today - NW Campus Health Fair and Job Fair will be in B-118, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Activities include vision-screenings, makeovers by Avon, Body Mass Index screenings and blood pressure readings. Representatives from Dallas Police Department, Fed EX, Fort Worth ISD, TruGreen ChemLawn,UPS and other companies will be present to provide information on job openings. Bring your resume.

Today South Campus will hold Laughing Your Way Through Stress at 6 p.m. in the SUB Forum Room. Flo Stanton, campus nurse and coordinator of health services, will show student how they can use laughter to relieve stress and make them happier and more relaxed. The seminar is presented collaboration with the Women in New Roles program.

Today Mike Eason and Penny Matthes, counselors, will present Is Your Relationship Stressing You Out? (Avoiding Co-dependency) at noon in SED 223. The brown-bag workshop is part of the counseling center's Lighten Your Load, a seminar series designed to help students manage stress.

Today Students and community can participate in the South Campus Health Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Student Center. Carter Blood Care and the National Marrow Donor Program will conduct blood donor and marrow registry drives from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the SUB Living Room. Anna Colin-Hernandez, an HIV prevention specialist, will be in the SUB Bluebonnet Room, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to perform HIV testing and to deliver results from the March 18 testing.

Friday, April 4 - SE Campus presents A Step Back in Time, 7-10 p.m. in the North Ballroom. The 1950s Sock Hop will offer music, dancing, games and fun. Refreshments may be purchased. Admission is $2.

Friday, April 4 - NW Campus fine arts and languages presents The World Trade Center Attacks: The Deaf Experience by Susan Zupnik and Carl Anderson, WTC survivors, 7-10 p.m. in B-118. The $25 tickets include dinner and presentation. Reservations are required. Two deaf survivors of the twin towers attacks will discuss their personal experiences and what to do in crisis situations. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.

 

Saturday, April 5 - South Campus will hold its third annual Open House for the community. Informational booths showcasing the campus programs and courses will be in the SUB Cafeteria. Visitors can talk with representatives from each academic department and technical area. Career advising and financial aid information will be available. The carnival-style event will include live entertainment, activities for all ages, free refreshments and special door prizes.

Saturday, April 5 - Battle of the Bands, sponsored by the Student Government Association on South Campus will be 2-6 p.m., east of the Performing Arts Center. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Recital Hall. One member of each band must be a TCC student, and each band must have at least three members. Cash prizes will be awarded first-third places. For information, contact Charles Huber in student activities, SUB 152.

Friday, April 11 - Last day to make donations to NE Campus Phi Theta Kappa canned food drive for the Northeast Emergency Distribution center (N.E.E.D.). For more information, contact Kathryn Wilmot at 817-590-0312.

Saturday, April 12 - Last day to drop a class.

Tuesday, April 15 - SE Campus Student Awards Night will be 7-9 p.m. in the North Ballroom.

Wednesday, April 16 - SE Campus presents another Wednesday Brown Bag Workshop Clueless About Your Future? Resolving Career Anxiety by Randy Saleh and Cyrus Crosby, noon-1 p.m., in SED 223. The workshop is the final seminar in the series designed to help students manage stress.

Wednesday, April 16 - SpringFest 2003: Hollywood Mania on NE Campus, in the Campus Center Lawn, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be music, food, massages, a mini health fair and more.
