South, SE celebrate Library Day
The Jenkins Garrett Library on the South Campus and the SE Campus library
will sponsor their first National Library Workers Day Tuesday, April 20,
during National Library Week.
Library workers including librarians, support staff and others who
make library services possible will be honored.
Both plan special displays including free bookmarks.
SE will display READ posters that feature SE faculty members.
Library workers are responsible for many tasks that often go unnoticed.
“
The Jenkins Garrett Library South works because we do,” Linda Jenson,
assistant director, said. “We’re the people opening the doors,
shoveling the walk, fixing the printers and selecting materials that
serve the community the best.”
Library workers do far more than check books in and out of the library.
They catalog and shelve materials, handle requests and send them to
other libraries, organize programs and events, administer computer
networks
and select and obtain books, CDs, videos and databases.
“
Not only do we make sure the library runs smoothly, we also protect user
privacy, fight against censorship and ensure that all people have access
to the information and library resources they need when they need it,” Jenson
said.
Library Workers Day is a great time to learn about the jobs held by
library employees, especially those contemplating a new or second career,
Janet
Lee, South Campus library coordinator, said.
“
We want people to know that we work at your library and we take pride in
what we do,” she said.
