Names and Events

Keri Jo White, South Campus, won the Andale Spanish Club Scholarship April 16. The scholarship of $150 is awarded to students who have completed 12 hours of Spanish as part of the criteria.

Ongoing Phi Theta Kappa on NE Campus is sponsoring a food and toiletries drive benefiting N.E.E.D. (Northeast Emergency Distribution). Drop off locations are in NTAB, NACB, NBSS, NSCI and NSTU. Items needed include non-perishable food, sugar-free Jello, jellies and jams. In addition, shaving products, diapers and laundry, dish and bath soaps also are needed.

Today SE career and employment services is holding the Need–A-Job/Get-A-Job fair in the Main Commons from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Among the prospective employers are companies that offer flexible schedules, shift work and tuition assistance. More than 60 employers from various fields are participating.

Today Women In Science, Women Out of Science will be presented by Dr. Andrea Schweitzer as a lunch lecture in the NE Campus Center Corner, NSTU 1615A, at 12:30 p.m.

Today Dr. Pamela Marcum will speak on cosmic forensics in a program titled Understanding Galaxy Evolution by Examining Galactic “Remains” in College Hall, NCAB 1111, at 7:30 p.m. on NE Campus.

Today TCC Computer User Group will learn how to buy and sell on ebay from speaker Roscoe Scott, 1-4 p.m. in the SSTU Living Room on South Campus.

April 22 The second annual CAD Fair will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the hallway and in some classrooms of the South Campus Engineering Technology Building. The event will highlight the CAD program and software will be demonstrated.

April 22 Darrel Noe will lecture on the weather, marine ecosystems, wildlife and research stations in Antarctica in WTLO 2126 at 2 p.m. on NW Campus. Noe will show slides of Antarctica, including icebergs, penguins and glaciers as well as scenes of the Fiords and habitats along the coast of Chile. Noe has an undergraduate degree in geology and is retired from American Airlines.

April 22 SE Campus will hold a tree dedication behind the library at 10 a.m. in celebration of Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Marti VanRavenswaay, Tarrant County commissioner, will be guest speaker. For more information, contact Lt. Grady Patterson at 817-515-3912.

April 23 The NE College Democrats will meet in NSTU 1204A at 12:30 p.m. for an organizational meeting.

April 27 Tarrant County Consumer Counseling Services will present Show Me the Money in the SSTU Texas Room, 12:30-1:30 p.m. on South Campus.

April 28 The South Campus English department will honor writers who will read works selected for inclusion in SCRIPT, the campus literary journal. The event is 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Theatre of the Performing Arts Center. A reception will follow in the the Lobby.

April 29 Dr. Mary Kay Hemenway will lecture on the History of Women in Astronomy in the NE Campus Center Corner, NSTU 1615A, at 11 a.m. Call 817-515-6644 by April 26 to RSVP for lunch.

April 30 A Fun Run of one mile will start at the tennis court gate on NE Campus at 1 p.m. Participants should report at 12:45 p.m.

April 30 Community in Motion—A Multicultural Journey will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Scott Theatre in Fort Worth. Students from all campuses will dance under the direction of Linda Quinn, NW Campus instructor.

May 7 NW Campus will host deaf students in pre-school to high school for its annual Deaf Heritage Day celebration 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The day will include both fun and educational activities for children of all ages and their parents. The Northwest Singers, a sign language group, will perform.Corporate sponsors will offer hands-on simulations of the latest technology, support service providers will distribute information about opportunities available to deaf/hard-of-hearing children. The event is sponsored by the sign language interpreting program and the fine arts and languages department. Activities will be in the WSTU Courtyard and WSTU 1303.
