Board votes for contracts on South pool
by Nick Nance, Managing Editor

Last week good news came to the swimmers of South Campus. The TCC Board of Trustees approved contracts that are part of the on-going construction of the swimming pool building.
An earth-moving contract was awarded to Brown Excavation of Fort Worth. The total cost of the project will be $46,974.
Tridal Utilities of Southlake was awarded a $51,968 contract for utility work to the building.
The last contract approved for work on the pool building was a roofing contract awarded to Chamberlin Waterproofing and Roofing. The value of the contract is $108,131.
In other business, the board approved the purchase of a point-of-sale system for the district bookstores.
The system will allow bar codes to be utilized at registers for a quicker checkout. The contract was awarded to Missouri Bookstores. The amount of the contract is $304,270.
"It is a complete overhaul of the operation of the bookstores," Bill Lace, executive assistant to the chancellor, said.
The system will help in book prices. TCC will be more efficient in getting the college's needs out to book manufacturers and getting better deals on used books, ultimately lowering the cost of books to students, Lace said.
"The system will enable us to know when a new edition of the book is coming out and when it will be out so we can pass that information to the student purchasing the book," he said.
The system update is estimated to take a year and a half, and the purchase includes training on the equipment for personnel.
