Students to learn stress relief

Students with multiple stresses can find relief next week on South Campus.
Sandra Johnson, South Campus counselor, will present Stress-Coping with the Pressures of School, Work and Family at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the SUB Texas Room on South Campus.
"I want to make people aware that stress is normal," she said.
"It's how you handle your stress that matters," Johnson said during a telephone interview.
Johnson said she could help students deal with many stress-producing problems such as homework deadlines, part-time and full-time jobs and hard-to-find time for their families through the demonstrations she will conduct.
"Students have many different stresses to deal with," the counselor said.
"Having to worry about finishing school, competing with other students for scholarships, not having a degree while a friend already has their master's are things that can lead to a lot of stress," she said.
Johnson will demonstrate how to handle stress by dealing with day-to-day situations.
She will teach students how to take control of stress rather than being controlled.
By separating the positive and negative reactions of stress, a student can learn how to manage difficult situations.
Johnson will show how to approach stress holistically rather than individually.
Johnson has been speaking about the repercussions of stress for many years and has been leading seminars since the early '90s.
A TCC counselor for 19 years, she deals with the day-to-day stress from students as well.
Johnson will present ways to relieve the stresses of school, work and family without a second thought.
