Strings to memorialize Wills

TCC students will hold a spring recital honoring the father of Texas Swing.
A Tribute to Bob Wills by the Country Strings begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the Fine Arts Theatre on NE Campus. Admission is free to this event.
Country Strings, under the direction of Diane Enger, will perform several Wills songs including Milk Cow Blues, San Antonio Rose and Faded Love.
Enger chose Wills as the subject of this tribute because of the musical influence he had on her childhood. Her father played Wills' music on mandolin and guitar while the rest of the family would sing along. As a young girl Enger learned to perform Faded Love on the fiddle.
Bluegrass is the focus of this 18-member group. Class members play various acoustic instruments such as banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin.
Class member Joe Vaughan, South Campus automotive instructor, will perform Steel Guitar Rag on the dobro.
Country Strings is the same group that performed music from O Brother, Where Art Thou last spring. Country Strings welcome children of class members as special guests. Two groups of children will perform Roly Poly and God Put a Rainbow in the Clouds.
The audience can sing along but is cautioned that dancing is not allowed at this event, Enger said.
