South intramurals ready for sign ups
by Rawly Bransom, Sports Editor
Fitness buffs and sports enthusiasts
can find something to fit their needs on South Campus this semester.
Intramural action is gearing up and all students are invited
to participate.
Monday marked the beginning of sign ups for table tennis,
4-on-4 volleyball, 5-on-5 co-rec flag football, outdoor soccer, racquetball
and the Latino Student Union vs. faculty/staff soccer game.
"We on the South Campus look forward to meeting the
diverse Wellness needs of our campus through a variety of intramural
and recreational activities this fall," Scott Clark, South Campus
intramural and recreational sports director, said.
Table tennis and 4-on-4 volleyball start play Thursday,
Sept. 11. Times for these events will be given at registration.
Those interested in volleyball can sign up a full team
or have teams assigned after the sign-up period has ended.
Racquetball begins Thursday, Sept. 18, while flag football
starts Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The LSU/faculty/staff soccer game and outdoor soccer will
begin in October.
Official sign up for the Century Club, an incentive-based
wellness program, begins Monday, Sept. 8.
According to HPE documents, the Century Club encourages
students, faculty and staff on South Campus to pursue aerobic exercise.
The wellness program continues throughout the semester
with participants choosing among running, Stairmaster, cycling and walking.
Participants must complete their exercises on the South
Campus during free play and open recreation instead of during HPE classes.
Participants must record their mileage and checkout at the end of their
workoouts.
To sign-up for any event, participants need a photo identification
card and a copy of their academic schedule/payment receipt.
Registration is at the HPE check-in counter in the gym.
