Hispanic Heritage month:
Ranger broadcaster to discuss Latinos
A prominent voice in Spanish radio
will discuss Latinos in Sports Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 9:30 a.m. in
NRTA 132 on South Campus.
Eleno Ornelas, who serves as the Texas Rangers coordinator
of Spanish broadcasting, is the man most Latinos currently relies on
to find the outcome of the Rangers and Dallas Mavericks games.
Ornelas has an extensive background as an administrator
in the Mexican amateur baseball leagues in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
and has announced professional baseball in Mexico.
A former full-time member of the sports department, Ornelas
serves as the lead announcer on KESS for Maverick and Ranger games.
He does both play-by-play and advertising and marketing for the radio
station. He is also the sole Spanish announcer for the Rangers road
games.
The presentation is sponsored by student activities and
the Latino Student Organization.
