Festival to feature jazz on boulevard
Camp Bowie will get jazzed up this
weekend with the Jazz by the Boulevard Festival.
To celebrate, the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth will
hold Jazz by the Boulevard Film Festival showing three jazz films
from the 1960s in the museum's auditorium.
The films include The Ornette Coleman Trio (1966),
Monk in Oslo (1966) about Thelonious Monk and Sound?? (1967) featuring
Rahsaan Kirk and John Cage.
All films are shown between 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday and
Sunday, Sept. 19-20.
A street festival will offer various kinds of music and
art with talent coming from local artists and schools.
Craftsmen will give demonstrations on how they create musical
instruments and art, all of which are made by professionals. Proceeds
from all purchases will go to the Fort Worth ISD.
Participants can receive free instruction in salsa, jazz,
flamenco and tap dancing. Workshops with professional performers interacting
with aspiring musicians and artists will also be given.
Festival admission is free though a donation is recommended.
Event organizers say the festival will occur, rain or shine. Tables
can be reserved for a nominal fee.
The festival is sponsored by Camp Bowie Initiatives, who
wants to preserve and assist in revitalizing the district.
