Shows in staging for Jubilee Theatre
Jubilee Theatre in Fort Worth mixes
comedy, drama and music in the 2003-2004 season.
The full schedule contains six shows, including three musical
productions.
The season starts with three sisters freed from slavery
in the tale of life in Kansas, Flyin' West by Pearl Cleage, running
Oct. 17- Nov. 16. Planned for the holiday season is the musical Auntee
Explains X-Mas, a slightly unusual tale of digression and invention
about Christmas as the narrator sees it.
Auntee will run Dec. 5-Jan. 4.
Mid-season performances include Ed Schmidt's Mr. Rickey
Calls a Meeting, running Jan. 30 until Feb. 22, about the history of
the color barrier in the baseball world.
That production will be followed by the musical Bessie
Smith: Empress of the Blues, a biography featuring the legend's life
story, March 19-April 18.
The fifth production is Jubilee's version of Woman
from the Town by Samm-Art Williams, a story of a sister's long-awaited
homecoming after fleeing as a pregnant teen. Performances of Woman open
May 21 and close June 13.
The season finale by Joe Rogers and Rudy Eastman, Funky Rhythm,
is a beat-filled musical running from July 9 to Aug. 22.
