Research methods changing

The TCC libraries offer more than books and other reference materials.
With the Internet in its height of popularity, search engines have become the research tool of choice for students.
"One of the biggest myths around is that everything is on the Internet and that it's free," Dr. Theodore Drake, director of library services on South Campus, said.

"The fact is that you'll find little information on the Web before 1975 and very little serious research available for free. Some information is actually easier to find in print than on-line," he said.
To assist the students with research, the TCC libraries have incorporated both electronic and print materials in their collection.
"[The] library offers the best of both worlds-extensive print works and some of the finest electronic resources available," Drake said.
The librarians are also available to assist any student in finding information. Drake said they act like a search engine; their job is to help find answers.
In addition, information literacy classes, research guides, tip sheets, as well as other aids are available to help students sharpen their research skills.
The library also has a Web site that allows students to access information from the comfort of their own homes.
"We provide collections free to our students in the same way that we provide print documents, video and other resources-only you can log on 24/7 from your home." he said.
