Eldon Land, Kriston Barrett and
Ruben Marin won first through third places at the Poetry Jam
on NE Campus last week. Sponsored by the English department, the event
had 51 students reading their works, and 111 students serving as evaluators.
The
Culinary Arts student organization on SE will sell bakery items,
made by members, Oct. 29-31, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Main Commons.
The Astronomy Club on NE Campus is sponsoring Holiday
for the Soldiers, a collection for single members of the 4th Infantry.
Students, faculty and staff can adopt a soldier, similar to Angel Tree
adoptions. Names and lists of needed items will be available in the
ATB lobby Oct. 27-31.
Students interested in joining NE College Democrats should

will have an organizational meeting 12:30 p.m. in NSTU 123 Tuesday,
Nov. 4.
Today NE Campus career and employment services is hosting Resume Critiquing,
10-4 p.m., by appointment, in NSTU 156.
Today Sociology of Success is scheduled for 12:30-1:30
p.m. in C-112 on NW Campus. Don Mack, assistant professor of sociology
and psychology, will focus on topics such as understanding oneself,
the key to success, the process of selecting a major and the difference
between making a life vs. making a living.

Career and employment services on SE Campus is holding a Holiday Helpers
Job Fair, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Commons. Various recruiters will be looking
for full-time, part-time and seasonal help.

NE Campus counseling center is sponsoring Career Testing, 12:30-2 p.m.
in the Student Center Galley. This career exploration workshop will
help students gain valuable information and insights into their tentative
career goals and college plans through testing methods. For information,

23 NE Campus counseling center brings Degree Planning/Transferring
Made Easy, 12:30-2 p.m. and Oct. 30, 5-5:30 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB
112). Texas college and university catalogs will be available for viewing,
and staff members will assist with degree planning.

23 Taking Control will be presented by Sandra D. Weathersby,
insurance agent with New York Life, on NW Campus in room C-112, 12:30-1:30
p.m. This workshop will offer strategies and techniques students can
use to help them manage their finances effectively.

23 Head, Fed and Med: Views on Marijuana Legalization will
be held on NE Campus in the Student Center’s Center Corner at
7:30 p.m.. The presentation, sponsored by Phi Tau Chapter of Phi Theta
Kappa, will discuss three views on marijuana legalization.

23 SE Campus Black Legacy student organization and student
development services are sponsoring Multicultural Fest in the Ballroom
and Main Commons 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The festival will include a variety
of entertainment such as dancers, music and songs from many different
cultures. The event will conclude with a multicultural style show.

28 Spectrum, the gay and lesbian student organization on NE
Campus, will show The Laramie Project at 12:30 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner.
The film details the killing of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student,
in Laramie, Wyo.
Oct. 28 ABCs To Success—Setting Goals and Making the Right Decisions
will be presented by Dennis Lee and Greg Shorts, academic advisors,
on South Campus in the Texas Room, 12:30- 1:30 p.m. The first segment
of a two-part series, this program will teach students how to set goals
and make good decisions. The leaders of the series plan to help students
discover the basics of being truly successful by learning the techniques
it takes to achieve goals.

28 SE Campus will offer flu shots and other immunizations in
the Main Commons from 5-7 p.m. and Oct. 29 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

28 Tales of The Tower of London will be performed 11:30-1:30
p.m. on SE Campus in the North Ballroom. The presentation will be given
by Tony Strafford, who previously worked at The Tower of London for
17 years as a Yeoman Warder, commonly known as a Beefeater. Strafford
discuss events and people that have made The Tower a world heritage
site. He will talk about the major historical events that have occurred
at the Bloody Tower.

28 PTK chapters on all four campuses will sponsor a satellite
seminar Keeping Our Promises: Improving Care at the End of Life. All
seminars begin at 6:30 p.m. See the related story in this edition for

29 NE Campus counseling center will host Discovering your Personality
Type in College Hall (CAB 112) 12:30-2 p.m. This session will offer
students an understanding of personality types as they relate to career
choice.

Student/Administrator Forum in the Student Center Living Room at 12:30
p.m. A light lunch will be served.

30 Tony Strafford, former Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London,
will discuss Jack the Ripper at 12:30 p.m. in the Center Corner of the
