Names and Events


   Aubrey Boswell, SE Campus student; Catherine Bottrell, assistant professor of government, and Dr. Liz Carrington, professor of biology, served as judges for the Oratorical Contest, sponsored by the Arlington Noon Optimist Club. Contestants are third-sixth graders. Stephen Brown, instructor of speech, and Janet Key, director of library services, organized the event on the SE Campus.

  The NE Art Association will raffle off prints by adjunct instructors Elizabeth Holden, Karen Weinman and Paul Greco as a holiday fund-raiser toward a group trip to New York in the spring. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each or $5 for six until Wednesday, Dec. 3. Prints are on display in the library until Friday, Dec. 12. The drawing will be held in the NFAB art wing at noon Dec. 3. Contact Anitra Blayton, adviser, at 817-515-6571 or NFAB 162 for tickets.

Students from NE and SE campuses placed in forensics competition at the Kingwood College Novice Invitational Tournament. Lisa Simmons, NE, won first place in Prose Interpretation and fourth in Programmed Oral Interpretation. Natalie Robbins, SE, placed sixth in Poetry.
During the TIFA Fall Tournament for Texas university and community college forensics programs, Simmons gained third-place honors for Prose Interpretation, and Chelsea McCoy, NE, won fourth place for Novice Dramatic Interpretation. The NE Campus took second place as a school for Limited Entry Sweepstakes because of the success of Simmons and McCoy. Lisa Benedetti, NE, and Stephen Brown, SE, serve as forensics directors.

Today Phi Theta Kappa on NE Campus will show a taped copy of last night’s Heads vs. Feds: The Great Debate teleconference by Steven Hager, Robert Stutman and Dr. Billy Martin at 12:30 p.m. in the Center Corner.

Today South Campus English department will host Evening With Authors featuring Jas. Mardis, Yvette R. Blair and Phyllis Allen at 7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda.

Today David Walker presents Hot Holiday Gift Items for the TCC Computer User Group in the NSTU Center Corner on NE Campus 1-4 p.m.

Today Women in New Roles sponsors Women’s Leadership Forum: Identifying Different Leadership Roles featuring Erma Johnson Hadley, vice-chancellor of human resources. The dinner begins at 6:15 p.m. in the NSTU Center Corner on NE Campus.

Nov. 20 Students, faculty and staff can ride the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (the T) one way free with a donation of one canned good. Two canned goods will earn a free local Day Pass, which can be used for unlimited rides during the Ride for a Can day. Food will be collected on each bus and at the Intermodal Transportation Center on Jones Street. The collected canned goods will be donated to the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Last year’s event collected almost two tons of nonperishable food.

Nov. 25 South Campus will hold Self-Love & Self-Esteem Leads to Self-Empowerment presented by Lilia Covio-Calzada, counselor, 12:30-1:30 p.m., in the SSTU Texas Room.

Nov. 26 Thanksgiving holiday begins at 5 p.m. Classes resume Monday, Dec. 1.
