Society to sponsor annual smokeout

The air may be clearer tomorrow for the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout.
The Smokeout is ACS’s annual nationally recognized day when smokers are asked to put down their cigarettes, cigars and spit tobacco because they all potentially can cause cancer.
This event is designed to provide life-saving tobacco cessation and prevention information to hundreds of members of the community.
Approximately 10,000 Texans will be diagnosed with lung cancer and 9,900 will die nationwide this year, an ACS study reports.
The ACS’s 2003 poster sends the message “It’s never too late to quit.”
ACS research reveals approximately 32 million smokers out of 46 million want to quit smoking completely.
Those smokers who want to kick this habit can find help though the American Cancer Society’s quitline by calling toll-free 1-877-yes–quit.
The free quitline offers counseling service, advice and cessation materials to smokers 13 and older.
For more information and material, call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.greatamericansmokeout.com.
