Nancy Drew seeks law breaker
by Shannon Harrison, Editor-In-Chief

Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, they did. The other night I returned to my car to find that it wasn’t exactly the way I left it.
Not only was it newly damaged, but whoever hit my car didn’t stick around. That’s right, no note, no insurance card, nothing to indicate this person had any ethics. I don’t understand why some people think it is okay for them to do certain things.
People make mistakes and can be forgiven, but I have a feeling this person couldn’t care less that I have to fork out money to fix my car, as long as he doesn’t.    So yesterday I took it upon myself to go to the police station and file a complaint. However, this person probably will never be caught, and I will be out of luck.
What irritates me is I probably know the person. It may be a friend (or so I thought) or an acquaintance. I suspect this personal connection because the accident happened where I work.
If this person would confess and let his insurance pay for the repairs, all would be forgiven, and I would drop the official complaint. However, we know this will never happen, so I decided to become the next Nancy Drew.
The person must have hit pretty hard, considering pieces of my car were spread all over the parking lot. He must have been driving a large vehicle since rubber from his bumper is smeared high on my car, which is fairly large.
With these two clues and a feeling that he frequents the place where I work, I have decided I will, indeed, catch him. He doesn’t know I am on the prowl, looking for his vehicle with paint from my car on his.
I will find this person, and when I do, he better hope I am in a good mood.
However, being the nice and understanding person that I am, when I do catch this immoral, law-breaking jerk, I will give him the chance to confess and do the right thing. I know … I am too nice. But will he? I doubt it.
At that point, my Nancy Drew investigation will end, and I will call in the big guns. Who, you ask? The Hurst Police Department. When these fine fellows (or women) arrive, they will make this person do the right thing, and all will be right with the world.
That scenario would be a perfect ending to my Nancy Drew story, but I’ll soon wake to reality, still stuck with a dented car that I must pay for.
