NE runners trot for turkeys
New campus amenities changed annual
NE Campus Turkey Trot Nov. 21.
This final event in this semester’s NEW Games
series has traditionally been a 1.25-mile jog down the campus roads
around the school.
With this year’s addition of the jogging trail,
the run was only one mile around the trail.
Before the Turkey Trot began, runners had to estimate
the time that they would finish in. When they crossed the finish line,
a spotter called out the runner’s time.
The male and female closest to their estimated time
won a frozen turkey. The male and female second closest to their time
won a small frozen hen.
First place in the men’s division went to Chris
Weelock, who guessed within 16 seconds his actual run time. Second place
went to Nimrod Nydhl, who was within 28 seconds of his time.
In the women’s division, Christy Chambers came
in first within 3 seconds of her estimated time while Marcia Feucht
finished second only 23 seconds off.
As in all NEW Games events, everyone who participated
received a door prize. Glasses, T-shirts and turkey candles were among
the prizes the runners received.
