Society offers scholarships for chemistry

The American Chemical Society is accepting scholarship applications for the 2004 academic year.
In an effort to support minority students in the chemical sciences, the society will award a total of $850,000 to current and new scholars. African American, Hispanic and Native Americans are eligible to receive $2,500 to $3,000. Rewards are renewable. Students in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, environmental and related fields at two-year and four-year colleges may apply.
“The purpose of the American Chemical Society Scholars Program is to diversify the chemical sciences, both in academia and the workforce, by helping those minority groups underrepresented in this arena to achieve their undergraduate degrees, and to encourage them to advance in chemistry or a chemically related field,” ACS president Elsa Reichmanis said.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 15. For more details about the ACS Scholars Program and an online application, visit chemistry.org/scholars or call 1-800-227-5558, extension 6250.
