NE faculty displaying works in Art by Northeast exhibit
For the first time, NE Campus art faculty members have an opportunity to show their work together.
Art by Northeast is on display through Feb. 23 at the Atrium Gallery at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. The exhibit features works by 12 adjunct and six full-time faculty.
Martha Gordon, art department chair, said that even though the artists work is geared toward more mature audiences, even children have turned up at the exhibit evidently enjoying themselves.
The art work is all on a more serious level, said Gordon, but it seems to be appealing to audiences of all ages. We are all artists, and we each have something strong to present.
Gordon herself is exhibiting three paintings along with a favorite display of two drawings of her mother placed inside a doll house. Her grandfather built the house in 1914 as a gift for her mother.
Participant Karmien Bowman is especially excited about showing her creative egg ceramics, In the Mood, symbolizing the importance of fertility.
Many of the artists make unique and strong statements about their views on society and personal fascinations through their contributions.
Photography instructors whose work is displayed include Richard Doherty, Patricia Richards, René West, Peter Feresten, Vicki Harris and Mark Penland.
Along with Gordon and Bowman, art faculty have contributed a variety of work including ceramic sculptures by Anitra Blayton, photographs by Lynn Dally, romantic landscapes by Robert Gossett, paintings by Kay Byfield and Richard Hlad.
Also included are drawings by Linda Stokes and Richard Miller, assemblages by Eddy Rawlinson, a large display by Suzanne Burris and other contributions by Cindy Hurt and Karla Hyde.
Even on campus, Bowman said, we were always in two different hallways. Its great to be able to have this opportunity to show our work together.
There are over 100 pieces in the exhibit and several of them can be purchased for the marked price or an offered price.
The exhibit is open Monday-Friday 8 p.m. -5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Admission is free.
