Awards night to honor students
Awards Night on SE Campus honors students who have excelled in academics and who focus on leadership.
Its important that good work gets recognized in some tangible way, Leonard McCormick, speaker and humanities division chair, said.
Awards include recognition for scholastic achievement in each of the academic disciplines. Over 200 students are receiving awards at the event Tuesday, April 16, 7 p.m. in the North Ballroom, Pert Durapau, director of student development services, said.
The awards are excellent to add to a college application, and those who receive them are highly motivated students who will continue to succeed in education, McCormick said.
Additional honorees for Awards Night are being recognized for their selection for Whos Who in junior colleges, campus leadership and a Spirit of Southeast award for involvement, Durapau said.
Selection begins with the professors who first nominate students, then division chairs and department chairs select two or three students from each academic discipline to receive an award, McCormick said.
The students who routinely receive awards know what it takes to succeed; they have already learned that. If there were a room full of 30 of them, I would expect all of them to at least live up to that expectation, he said.
