Special day to assist battered
by Sherri Jones, reporter
The Battered Womens Foundation of DFW has scheduled several events for the women of Tarrant County who have been victims of abuse.
A potluck dinner for all battered women and their families is planned for Sunday, June 24, at the Hurst facility.
Next month Day To Shine will take place Saturday, July 14, an event usually scheduled for the first Saturday of every month. Local hairdressers will go to the shelter and give free haircuts on a first-come first-serve basis.
Also on this day, free facials will be provided along with massages. Then women and their families can go to the clothing facility and pick up some new clothes.
After enjoying a free hot lunch, participants can hear a guest speaker discussing womens issues. A free resume and self improvement class will be offered by volunteers. The July event is located at 9125 Rumfield Road in North Richland Hills.
This day is totally focused on making them feel special and to give them hope to press on, a center employee said.
The next day a school supply drive starts. This year the foundation along with the community is aiming at providing 46 families with required school supplies. All kinds of materials are needed.
These supplies will be distributed July 29-30 at the center to pre-k to senior level children. Drop off boxes are located at the center.
Battered Womens Foundation is available for all women and their families.
We are trying to find more battered women in the DFW area who need a special day in their lives. Brenda Jackson, foundation director said.
Jackson said there are many resources for victims in the community that are overlooked or people are too embarrassed to ask for help. The Battered Womens Foundation hopes to get its message out through these activities.
