Gold medalist to visit area menswear store
Brandon Slay, native Texas and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist in freestyle wrestling, will make an in-store appearance Saturday, Dec. 2, 20-5 p.m. in The Kent Shop, a Dallas menswear store.
Slay was awarded the gold medal following the Olympics because the winner was disqualified for testing positive for drugs. The wrestler got his medal in a special ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 15, at NBCs Today Show.
Show personalities Al Roker and Matt Lauer replaced Slays silver medal with a gold medal.
Jeremy Wiggains, owner of The Kent Shop, said, We are thrilled to have Brandon make an appearance. Not only is he a Kent Shop customer, but he is an inspirational athlete with a great story to share with the public.
Following the New York ceremony, Slay said, This medal is not tainted at all. I think it has opened up a wonderful forum for children to learn that if you break the law and take drugs, that not only can you lose your life, but you can lose your lifelong dream.
Slay was born and reared in Amarillo and received dual degrees in finance and management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He qualified for the 2000 Olympic Team in Dallas.
The Kent Shop will provide autographed, Brandon Slay Gold Medal posters to the first 50 people attending the appearance.
