Easter bunny hops onto campuses

Spring is a time for renewal. Birds are singing; flowers are blooming, and TCC campuses are celebrating with egg hunts for children.

Children can meet the Easter Bunny at the Visitor’s Circle during the SE Campus’ second annual egg hunt Friday, April 13, 1-4 p.m., sponsored by the Future Professionals of Science and Medicine.

To keep the children separated by ages, the group has scheduled three different hunt times. Children age 0-3 hunt at 1:30 p.m., age 4-6 at 2:30 p.m. and age 7-12 at 3 p.m.

A charge of $2 will cover children’s participation in the egg hunt, face painting and other activities. Beverages and snacks will be sold with the proceeds going to benefit the Arlington Women’s Shelter.

Regina Huse, biology instructor, helps coordinate the event.
“Last year we were able to raise about $1,200 for the shelter,” she said.

The eggs will contain candy and prizes.

"The area businesses have really been generous this year,” she said.

Every 15 minutes, entry tickets will serve as raffle coupons for donated items such as Omni tickets and Luby’s gift certificates. The first 150 kids will receive food coupons from Whataburger. Personnel from radio station KISS FM will be present for a remote broadcast during part of the event.

The Easter Bunny will make an appearance on South Campus, Saturday, April 14. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. in the interior campus and are expected to last one hour.

Sponsors have planned games, prizes and a treasure hunt. The Easter egg hunt is being held for the children of TCC students, faculty and staff, so pre-register with student activities by Wednesday, April 11, to participate. Call 817-515-4553 for more information.

The NE Campus will conduct its Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 14, at noon, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa. Parents are advised to get there early because the hunt begins with the first bong of the clock tower at noon.

Karsten Bernitz, Phi Theta Kappa vice president of service, said last year’s event was a success.

“The kids rushed for the eggs at the first bong, and by the 12th, all the eggs were picked up and it was all over,” he said.

NW Campus will entertain pre-K students of WJ Turner School with an egg hunt Wednesday, April 11, at noon. Prizes for the children were donated by radio station HOT 100.

Adults should accompany and watch over their children. Children need to bring their own baskets because none of the campuses will supply them.
