Can Run to assist Tarrant food bank
The first annual Can Run Against Hunger, a half-marathon, 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk, benefiting the Tarrant Area Food Bank, will be Saturday, Nov.11, in Trinity Park.
The Food Bank, by joining with member agencies, serves 13 counties in the North Central Texas area.
The organization joins in fighting to break the cycle of hunger for children, elderly, chronically ill, disabled and other needy people in the area.
Monthly 260 partner agencies feed 32,000 households and serve an average of 220,000 prepared meals.
For every $1 contributed, Tarrant Area Food Bank distributed $20 worth of food to the most needy in North Texas.
The Food Bank always needs donations of food as well as volunteers to help package food to be delivered to the needy. This run is just one way the community can donate money to help the bank and other agencies continue to serve the area hungry.
Participants will receive an official Can Run T-shirt and enjoy music and entertainment, as well as door prizes.
Advanced registration runs through Friday, Nov.10, at $20 for adults and $10 for children 10 years and under.
Registration the morning of the race, for $5 more, will be at the 7th Street entrance of Trinity Park from 6:30-7:45 a.m.
Officials will accept teams as well as individual runners.
Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third largest teams.
Call 817-332-9177 for registration locations.
