Campuses offer good workouts in Century clubs
Anyone looking for a non-competitive sports program, or maybe just trying to keep up with a workout schedule, might consider the Century Club.
The Century Club is an open recreation program of intramurals for students, faculty and staff.
This program helps people to get started on an aerobics program, Scott Clark, head of intramurals on South Campus, said.
Even though the semester is almost over, you can still get started now and come back in January, he said.
Individual programs on South Campus include running, walking, bicycling and stairmaster.
Different markers for these programs are 100, 250 and 500 miles.
Swimming is not currently offered on South Campus because of pool construction.
On NE Campus, Century Club events include swimming (25 miles), running (100 miles) and bicycling (250 miles).
We usually try to go from September to September or a least try to do one of these programs in one years time, Marty Martin, coordinator of non-credit physical education, said.
According to Martin, usually 20-30 people sign up per year.
We work on the honor system. Once someone finishes one of these events, we give them the choice of a t-shirt or a cap, he said.
Survive the Safari at the SE Campus is similar to the Century Club.
This program requires one and a half hours a week of on-campus participation and is documented.
A participant can come in once or twice a week, for eight weeks, Debbie Arenz, aerobics instructor and instructor of HPE, said.
A small jeep on a jungle map is moved along, helping to track a participants progress.
Registration for Survive the Safari is at the beginning of the semester and is free.
Upon completing the course, participants receive t-shirts.
