Clubs offer scholarships
Two South Campus groups are recognizing Spanish students.
Lizeth Escorcia and Natalia Dominguez received $200 scholarships for TCC last week from the Latino Student Union.
The Senior Ed Spanish club, Andale, will also award a TCC tuition scholarship.
Charles Mercer, president and founder of the seniors club, said, We decided to give back to the students in the form of a scholarship.
During its Friday meetings in the SUB, the club rehearses and plays scenes from Destinos, a Spanish soap opera used in Spanish classes to complement lectures and textbook lessons.
Acting out the parts is a fun way to learn Spanish, Mercer said.
Spanish instructors Julieta Cano and Linda Roy have supported the group, and a student recipient has been chosen from their classes.
We have one scholarship this spring; we may have two next fall, he said.
