Companies seek employees on South Campus
by KC Jones, reporter
South Campus will hold a career/job fair, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The fair is sponsored by the career center and will be in the SUB Dining Room.
A variety of companies will send representatives to discuss various openings; therefore, wearing interview attire is recommended.
Monica Carrasco-Bettle, career center coordinator, explained what the career/job fair has to offer.
This is a great opportunity for students and the community to meet each other. Even if students are not looking for a job, the fair is a good place for networking.
Many people find themselves in transition and nervous about changing careers. The fair is more relaxed and not as intimidating as a formal interview, she said.
Over 50 employers are expected to participate including the following: American Airlines, Bank One, Bell Helicopter Textron Inc, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, CarMax, Childrens Medical Center of Dallas, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Medical Center, FedEx Ground, First Word Staffing, JPS Health Network, Kelly Services and Keystone International.
Carrasco-Bettle emphasizes that this is not only a job fair but also a career fair.
Not only will there be many companies present but career counseling will also be available, she said.
Most of the technical departments will have tables. Students can learn about the different degree plans from departments like nursing, accounting/office administration, computer maintenance, computer and wireless communications technologies and engineering technologies.
Students are advised to bring plenty of resumes since there will not be a copier available. Students who want to schedule a resume critique before the fair can call the career center weekdays 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at 817-515-4551.
Another career/job fair is scheduled Wednesday, April 10.
