DA candidate meets with NE Democrats
by Nicholas Nance, reporter
The College Democrats sponsored a personal meeting with a Tarrant County district attorney candidate last week on NE Campus.
The current district attorney has been in office for 30 years, and its time for a change, Terri Moore said.
When I came out of law school, I hadnt planned on going into criminal law at all. My idea about going to the DAs office appealed to me. They threw you into trial right away, and you got a lot of trial experience, she said.
Moore explained how she wanted to serve her community and lock up bad guys. She said she had always wanted to serve her country but was never in the military. She saw the district attorney position as that opportunity.
Moore has worked in the district attorneys office for 10 years and has worked for the man she will be running against.
The Tarrant County district attorneys office handles prosecutions for all of Tarrant County. Prosecutors, Moore said, are rotated every six months, so numerous prosecutors handle cases.
Moore proposes having a seasoned prosecutor assigned to each violent crimes case and to see that case through its completion.
I advanced from being the chief prosecutor in the court, to the gang chief, to the only female deputy chief of felony division, which is responsible for four courts, she said.
Moore described how she wrote the changes in juvenile code with the Tarrant County Citizens Crime Commission and traveled to Austin to testify before it.
Thats being active in the community, she said. I am willing to get out there and work hard, and Im the best person for the job.
Moore, a long-time Democrat, believes honesty and integrity are important.
The College Democrats currently plan to have a guest speaker at least once a month and invite all interested people to attend each function. For more information about future events, contact Sonja Davison, group sponsor, at 817-515-6346.
