Graduation deadline rapidly approaching
by Shannon Harrison, managing editor

Students planning to graduate at the end spring semester must contact the Counseling Centers on their respective campuses to apply for a petition by Monday, Feb. 19.

Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and have completed all the required subjects on their certain degree plan.

Students must meet several other requirements, such as having a minimum of 16 in-residence hours at any of the TCC campuses. A student must have completed 64 hours to receive an associate in arts degree, which can be used to transfer to a major university.

“Once a student submits the petition at the registrar’s office or to the different degree departments, it’s reviewed and we notify the student to let him/her know that we are aware of his/her petition,” Dr. Van Parker, NE Campus dean of student development and education services, said.

Throughout the time the students submit their petitions and the end of the semester, they must maintain 2.0 or higher in order to keep the petition valid.

In the event of the students’ falling below this mark or the requirements not being met, the students will receive a letter informing them of their ineligibility to walk across the stage in May.

“We send the letters out to inform the students so if we over-looked a transcript from another college, the problem can be fixed,” Parker said.

Graduation will be held in the Tarrant County Convention Center Wednesday, May 16, according to the 2001 spring schedule of classes.

Counselors stressed the importance of completing the core curriculum degree plan before any of the additional electives are taken.
