Festivities set for Earth Week
SE students will celebrate Earth Week with several activities Monday, April 16-Friday, April 20.
Geology 1301, an art exhibit of wood-fired stoneware and porcelain by Matt Dannelley, will open in Art Corridor I. An artists reception is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday night.
Geologist Clay Chesney will speak on groundwater/surface water interaction Monday, 10:10 a.m. in the C.A. Roberson Theatre.
The Collegiate Chorale will follow at 11:05 a.m. with a performance featuring Antonin Dvoraks Songs of Nature.
John Darling, volunteer with Arlingtons master composter program,will present an interactive exhibit on environmentally friendly information in the Sub-Commons Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Chamber Players will perform the music of Scott Joplin Thursday, 10:30 a.m. in the Commons. Dottie Woodson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, an adjunct professor on NW Campus, will speak on horticulture at 11 a.m. in the C.A. Roberson Theatre. Woodson will be followed by the SE Singers performing favorite pop music at 12:15 p.m.
Students from Ashworth Elementary School will join SE students Friday at 11:30 a.m. to hang gourd birdhouses on the south lawn near the library and play games. A tree farm planting and ladybug release will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. dedication of the partnership tree.
Earth Day began as a time to bring awareness to political officials on issues that affect the environment. This year Earth Day celebrates its 31st anniversary.
Texas Citizens for the Environment will sponsor its annual celebration at Trinity Park Pavilion, April 21, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The event includes education booths on water conservation, air quality, waste diversion, recycling, composting and organic gardening.
The public is also invited to join in games with prizes and a special raffle for anyone arriving by alternate transportation or carpool.
Refreshments including free hot dogs are available for all who attend.
The Tipi Tellers will provide storytelling for all ages.
